More work still needed to grow Sarawak’s fintech scene

There is still more work that needs to be done to build and develop Sarawak’s financial technology (fintech) scene and on a wider perspective, Malaysia’s fintech industry, a tech expert shared.

Supreme Ebanq Fintech Ltd (Supreme Fintech) founder, chief executive officer and fellow Sarawakian Datuk Seri Utama Muhammad Shafie Abdullah pointed this out during a recent interview with The Borneo Post following a briefing on Supreme Fintech, an upcoming global virtual bank based in UK.

He noted that more work still needs to be done to harness the talents here which he believes are plentiful and capable of developing Sarawak’s digital industry.

He hoped the state government could offer opportunities to locals, when it comes to building the digital financial ecosystem in Sarawak.

He gave an example whereby companies such as his could collaborate with local universities to give talks or solutions to educate locals on the importance of fintech and its future in the financial industry.

He also hoped to see a fintech hub here which could help create more job opportunities as well as boost Sarawak’s tourism and investment sectors.

“For Sarawak, being a Sarawakian, my intention is to help the people of Sarawak with the technology that I have which I want to share. From here, we could create more job opportunities and tourism as well as investments into the state. It (fintech) can help the economical growth of Sarawak,” he said.

“If we could bring a fintech hub here in Sarawak, we could put the state on the global map,” he added.
